The term surrogacy means hitching a woman's uterus who is capable of conceiving voluntarily or being paid with certain amount.
This process is done by transferring the female ovum which has been fertilized with male sperm (usually from a husband and wife) and the fetus will be conceived by a surrogate mother until birth. Then, when the baby is born it will be handed over to the couple as promised .
Generally, this process occurs when a woman has no hope for a normal pregnancy as she is afflicted with a disease or defect especially to her uterus that cause failure of pregnancy and childbirth or in certain cases for women who want to have children but have reached menopause.
In a poor country like India , many women lend their wombs to western couples who cannot have children of their own or who do not want to have any children of their own as a result of personal choice .
Each surrogate mother is placed in a special dormitory which is away from their families for the pregnancy. All their activities are monitored to ensure a good health of the baby conceived.
India became the choice because the cost of renting the womb starting from GBP 5000 (USD 8400) and this is way much cheaper than the surrogacy fees charged in western countries. It also helps to ease the burden of life of surrogate mothers as majority of them come from poor families
